Tennis Elbow Treatment in Indore

Tennis elbow, medically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common condition characterized by pain and inflammation on the outer part of the elbow. Despite its name, tennis elbow can affect individuals who don’t play tennis as well. It typically occurs due to repetitive motion or overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons, resulting in small tears or damage to the tendons that attach to the lateral epicondyle (bony bump on the outer part of the elbow).

Symptoms of tennis elbow:

  1. Pain: The primary symptom of tennis elbow is pain on the outer part of the elbow, which may radiate down the forearm. The pain typically worsens with gripping, lifting, or twisting movements of the wrist and forearm.
  2. Weakness: Weakness in the affected forearm muscles may occur, particularly with gripping or lifting objects.
  3. Stiffness: Stiffness and limited range of motion in the elbow joint may be experienced, especially after periods of rest or inactivity.
  4. Tenderness: Tenderness and swelling may be present over the outer part of the elbow, particularly near the lateral epicondyle.

Treatment of tennis elbow:

  1. Rest and activity modification: Resting the affected arm and avoiding activities that exacerbate symptoms can help reduce pain and inflammation.
  2. Ice therapy: Applying ice packs to the affected area can help alleviate pain and reduce inflammation.
  3. Pain medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help reduce pain and inflammation.
  4. Physical therapy: Performing specific exercises and stretches to strengthen the forearm muscles and improve flexibility can help alleviate symptoms and prevent recurrence.
  5. Bracing or splinting: Wearing a brace or splint on the forearm can help reduce strain on the tendons and provide support during activities.
  6. Corticosteroid injections: In some cases, corticosteroid injections may be recommended to reduce pain and inflammation in the affected area.
  7. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy: PRP injections may be considered for individuals with chronic or severe tennis elbow symptoms who have not responded to other treatments.

In cases where conservative treatments fail to provide relief, or for severe or persistent symptoms, surgical intervention such as arthroscopic debridement or tendon repair may be necessary to address the underlying tendon damage and alleviate symptoms. However, surgery is typically reserved for cases that do not respond to conservative treatments.
